Manchester-Boston Regional Airport Receives FAA Safety Award

December 12th, 2008

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport has been recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for operational excellence and has received an FAA Safety Award.

The Federal Aviation Administration Safety Award was presented at the FAA’s 2008 New England Region Airports Conference by Ms. Laverne F. Reid, Manager of the New England Region, Airports Division. The award is in recognition of three consecutive years of clean (no discrepancies) airport certification inspections.

The airport certification process is an annual audit of regulatory and safety standards to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139, Certification of Airports. The airport certification inspection takes place over a three day period and includes an assessment of airport operations and facilities, aircraft rescue firefighting, training, record keeping and a number of other items related to the safety and operation of the airport.

In a statement from the award ceremony, Ms. Laurie Suttmeier, Lead Certification Inspector for the FAA New England Region described what she feels has lead to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport’s success. “Employees are proactive. They appear to take ownership of the job and feel responsible (and take pride) in the growth and popularity of the airport.”

Airport Director Mark Brewer remarked that “We are very fortunate to have a knowledgeable and dedicated team that takes great pride in their work and in the airport. This award represents a lot of hard work and attention to detail, the benefits of which can be seen in and around the airport every day. I appreciate the commitment which lead to this award and I applaud the efforts of our entire crew.”
